The Poling Cabin
Built in 1840 by pioneer James Poling, the Poling Cabin served as a family home for generations. Over time, additions were made to accommodate the growing family. After changing ownership and standing vacant for decades, the cabin was moved to Marysville and became part of “The Ole Village.”
In 2009, when demolition was planned, Allen Township residents intervened to preserve the cabin. Donated to the township, the cabin was carefully dismantled, stored, and reconstructed by volunteers. Today, it stands in Allen Township Park and was formally dedicated on September 17, 2011.
Historic Bridges
Allen Township is home to several historically significant bridges:
Pottersburg (Upper Darby) Bridge – Built in 1868 by Reuben L. Partridge and later relocated and restored for pedestrian use.
Spain Creek Covered Bridge – Constructed in the 1870s, this 64-foot bridge is one of Union County’s smallest covered bridges and one of only five designed by Partridge.
Buck Run Bridge – Built in 2006, this 160-foot covered bridge was the longest single-span covered bridge in Ohio at the time of its construction.
North Lewisburg Road Bridge – Constructed in 2006, replacing the original Pottersburg Bridge at its former crossing.
